Other identifications
Some places in this circuit are identified differently by different traditions or scholars. Each view is given; we do not settle it.
Dhyan Badri
Identified by: Scholarly accounts of the Sapta Badri, in which the Panch Badri set omits Ardha Badri and usually Dhyan Badri — so which five you get depends on the source.
The other view
The Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board's published set, followed here, which lists Vridha Badri instead. Narasingh Badri is rarely included as a further variant.
Where this list comes from
- Government: Uttarakhand Tourism, Panch Badri Circuit, which names the set as Badrinath, Yogdhyan Badri, Bhavishya Badri, Vridha Badri and Adi Badri. Its start-to-end walkthrough is a geographic routing of only four of them and is not a prescribed ritual sequence. Membership variants are recorded in Devesh Nigam, Tourism, environment, and development of Garhwal Himalaya, Mittal Publications, 2002, pp. 16–18, and Bisht 1994, p. 83. uttarakhandtourism.gov.in · seen 2026-09-18
A note for the curious
Neither the order nor the membership is fixed. The swing member varies by source between Dhyan Badri, Vriddha Badri and Narasingh Badri. The membership recorded here follows the Uttarakhand Tourism variant; scholarly accounts give a different five. No prescribed ritual order was found — the state tourism route is geographic, runs down-valley, and omits Badrinath itself from its own itinerary.
